Fast Car

London, October 23, 2008--With a nose for speed, the Bloodhound supersonic car (illustrated above) is being designed to set a new land speed record of a 1,000 miles (1,609 kilometers) an hour by 2011, engineers announced in London today.
Powered by a rocket and a jet engine, the Bloodhound necessitates innovations--such as light but superstrong wheels and "smart" suspension systems--to endure sustained supersonic travel. The car's designers hope "to inspire the next generation of scientists and engineers," according to a press statement.

(newspaper editorial homework)
I think Labour should be our government because…
1. If it was not for labor we would not have our railways and we would have sent troops to go and fight.
2. Helen Clark said this about climate change ’’For generations Kiwis have grown up in New Zealand enjoying our beaches, our unique bush, and our wildlife. Climate change is one of the greatest challenges to the environment we all know and love so much. We don’t have time to waste. Labour is determined to make sure that we continue to protect the New Zealand way of life for our children and our grandchildren. That’s why Labour is committed to real measures to meet the challenge of climate change’’.
3. Helen has agreed that she will lower prices of our GPs and doctors.
4. Helen Clark will give you warmer homes by expanding the retrofitting in your home.
5. Labour believes that workers deserve a fair reward for the contribution they make.
6. Labour have made sure that all New Zealanders are entitled to four weeks holiday a year.
Labour said ‘’We are proud Kiwis and committed to continuing to support our unique and independent voice, at home and abroad’’.
7. Our national identity is unique and we must protect it for the future. Our children need to grow up knowing who we are and what we stand for. Whether this is through our arts and culture, our writers, musicians, film-makers and television producers, our sports people or whether it is through our nuclear-free position, taking a stand on the war in Iraq or our groundbreaking free trade agreement with China, New Zealand and New Zealanders can stand tall said Labour.
8. Labour believe our health system is a core part of kiwi life. We don’t privatise this sort of necessity and have ambulance staff check our pockets for insurance cards before they act.
9. Labour will always fight health privatisation.
10. Labour is dedicated to ensuring our youngest Kiwis get the best start possible to their education through quality early childhood education.

Room 14's Totem Poles
LS: Why did you make the totem poles?
AP: We made them because Linda McIntyre designed them and then our
student teacher Ms Farmer wanted to make some poles, just like the ones by the jetty.
LS: How did you make them?
AP: First of all there was just a wooden pole, and then we painted pictures and put on the background colour. Then Mrs Wilson thought they would look good with tops, so we made some out of paper mache. We also outlined the pictures with vivid.
LS: Why were they outside on Wednesday, last term? We were interested to know why.
AP: Because they were being varnished and they were out there to dry.
LS: Will you use the totem poles for a project or role play?
AP: Probably not. They’re just art.

If I ruled the world
The first thing I would do if I ruled the world is stopping all the fighting in the world, wars and crimes because…
If everyone in the world was friends then they’re would be no murders or unnatural deaths.
Wars always cause damage to cities, people’s property and a lot of deaths.
Everyone gets nervous that their loved ones or even themselves will get caught up in a war.
The world would just be a better and happier place for every one to live in.
The people who make weapons will become doctors, lawyers, inventers that could invent something that can help the world.
If we stopped all the wars lots more fuel would be saved instead of it being wasted in piloting airplanes and driving tanks.
Wars are nothing but misery, fear and horrible deaths.
Good metal and other useful materials are used to make weapons, tanks and other fighting things when they could be used to make useful machinery.
If we stopped all the world fighting, people would not be left with horrible scars and injures that disable them for ever.
When some country try’s to invade another country unsuspecting people get killed. Those people could have done something useful for the world.

Is the world better than it was 50 years ago?
First off, we have the whole global warming thing because of the gases and electricity we are wasting on stuff like air freshener, play stations and all that stuff, the list could go on for ever. We don’t need any of these things, if we went back fifty years everyone was living happily without all these things and there was no global warming problem.
Secondly, 50 years ago there were no boy racers. Now we have invented all this gear that makes cars go faster, but as they get faster the more dangerous they become and more lives are lost, because of silly people in silly cars. These people like racing round the streets and getting themselves killed.
Thirdly, all of the laws are getting looser and looser and more and more of the criminals are getting let off the hook. They are then let back on the streets so they can commit crimes again.
I’m not saying you have to believe me but these are the facts. You make your own mind up.
